Player requirements and considerations

For the best viewing experience, make sure your computer or mobile device meets the requirements listed below. Your choice of browser, player, and system configuration may also affect your playback experience, so please take time to read the considerations listed here.

Computer or Mobile Device

Microsoft® Windows®

  • Windows 10, Windows 8.1, or Windows 8
  • Firefox®, Google Chrome, Microsoft Edge, or Internet Explorer® 11
  • Broadband Internet or Wi-Fi connection

Apple® Mac OS®

  • Apple Mac OS X 10.12 and higher
  • Apple Safari® 10 and higher, Firefox, or Chrome
  • Broadband Internet or Wi-Fi connection

  • Apple iOS 10.0 and higher
  • Apple Mobile Safari
  • Wi-Fi or cellular data connection

  • Android 6.0 and higher
  • Chrome browser
  • Wi-Fi or cellular data connection

  • OpenSUSE® 11.0 or Ubuntu® with the following:
    • FFmpeg plugin
    • Chromium web browser
  • Broadband Internet or Wi-Fi connection

Before you begin, consider the following:

  • Many web browser technologies are moving away from or limiting support for legacy plugins. As a result, only Internet Explorer supports WMV playback.
  • Playback speed control is only supported on some playback platforms, depending on the player layout, browser type and media playback element.
  • If you are unable to play the presentation, contact your Mediasite administrator to make sure that the appropriate media type is available and supported for your playback platform.
  • Remember to configure pop-up blockers to allow site pop-ups. Otherwise, presentations will not appear.
  • There are additional considerations when using IE browsers to playback presentations:
    • If your IE browser does not support media source extensions, you will need Adobe® Flash® to playback Smooth Streaming content.
    • IE requires Windows Media Player 9.0 or higher OR Microsoft Silverlight® 5 for Windows Media playback.
  • If you are playing back presentations on Linux servers using Ubuntu 16.04.2 LTS, take the following into consideration:
    • HLS does not playback in Opera. The Player will use Flash instead.
    • HLS does not playback in Firefox.
  • To playback presentations on Linux, the latest versions of Firefox (v.54) and Chrome (v.59) require the VLC media player's codec.
  • When playing back presentations on devices using iOS 11, you may encounter some issues. These issues are not inherent to Mediasite and may be resolved in later versions of iOS. Consider viewing presentations on a desktop computer or different device if these issues negatively affect your viewing experience.
