Writing Effective Multiple Choice Exam Questions

Target Audience:  Faculty and staff involved in planning and conducting formal and informal educational activities and programs at all levels (undergraduate, graduate, and faculty development) and throughout all schools of the Health Center (graduate, dental, and medical)   Program Goal:  As a theme for this academic year, participants will gain proficiency in common educational roles that they serve and functions that they provide within health professions education.   Learning Objective:  Participants will be able to ? 1. understand the importance of exam question validity and reliability as these relate to standard setting (i.e., Pass/Fail score) on an examination; 2. identify the common flaws in question construction that result in poor reliability; and, 3. develop an approach to writing multiple-choice questions that will result in high reliability.
